As thousands pack the front rows awaiting their favorite band or musician at this weekend’s Forecastle Festival, we suspect there will be a steady and increased crowd inside the Forecastle Bourbon Lodge thanks to a more aggressive campaign to raise the bar, so to speak.

New this year will be phenomenal rare bourbon offerings thanks to a partnership with Liquor Barn and Kentucky Bourbon Trail distilleries, as well as a well-rounded, intimate offering of “Fireside Chats” curated by bourbon expert Fred Minnick.

As we mentioned in May, the Rarities Bar will feature more than 15 rare or one-of-a-kind private selections picked by Liquor Barn’s bourbon director Brad Williams and Forecastle founder J.K. McKnight.

You can expect samples of the very-hard-to-find Four Roses Al Young 50th Anniversary Small Batch;¬†five other Four Roses limited edition offerings; Michter’s 10-Year Single Barrel Rye Whiskey; the not-yet-released Old Forester Statesman; Woodford’s Double Double Oaked; two Orphan Barrel releases; Wild Turkey’s 17-Year Master’s Keep; and several others.

Most of the rarities mentioned above will be released during the “Fireside Chat” sessions that will feature discussions on various topics by Minnick, master distillers and other industry folks.

Highlights include “Romancing the Wood” on Friday with McKnight, Williams and Maker’s Mark’s Jane Conner; “Bourbon Family Icons” on Saturday featuring Wild Turkey’s Bruce Russell, Jim Beam’s Fred Noe and others; “50 Years of Four Roses” with Al Young on Saturday; and “Fred & Bernie Bond,” with Minnick and bourbon professor and Heaven Hill ambassador Bernie Lubbers.
