Red Herring Cocktail Lounge & Kitchen in Hilltop Theater is making the leap from dinner and cocktails to pastries and coffee, as breakfast service is being added next week.

“We always intended for our beautiful and storied space to be enjoyed nearly 24 hours a day,” co-owner Brett Davis said in a news release. “Now that our guests have learned to love our classic cocktails and unique dishes in the evening, we are ready to expand with coffee and pastries during the day. This gorgeous building lends itself perfectly for both a morning meeting and night out with friends and now so do our menus.”

From the hours of 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., the business will be known as Red Herring Coffee Lounge & Roastery. It will serve a custom coffee roast, tea, fresh squeezed juices, made-from-scratch pastries, sweet and savory kolache, no-bake cookies, cinnamon rolls and breakfast sandwiches.

Customers also can order “coffee-tails” such as the restaurant’s “cold fashioned” with coffee instead of bourbon and a cold brew Negroni with Campari, gin and cold-brewed coffee.

Red Herring chef Jacob Coronado created the new food menu. Clay Livingston, who manages the bar operations, crafted the coffee-tails with his team.

At 4 p.m., the staff will switch to serving cocktails and the small plates menu of sweet and savory items that Red Herring started with.

Red Herring opened in April in the 112-year-old building Hilltop Theater building, 1757 Frankfort Ave., after building owner and Red Herring co-owner Mo Deljoo spent years remodeling the property.

The bar and small plates restaurant offers a menu of 100 classic cocktails, as well as beer and wine, and dishes such as grouper cheeks, a Black Hawk Farms burger and melted pimento cheese loaf. Prices range from $4 to $15, and Red Herring offers various specials throughout the week.

The current hours of operation are 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. seven days a week.
