If there ever was a time to host a festival that provides and encourages kindness, now is it. But the Mighty Kindness Hoot is nothing new to Louisville — it’s been going strong for 10 years. The annual music, art and free love festival takes place Saturday at the Brown-Forman Amphitheater at Waterfront Park.

More than 200 booths from local artisans, businesses and organizations will dot the banks of the Ohio, and two separate stages will feature music from the likes of the Louisville Leopard Percussionists, Brother Wolves, Leigh Ann Yost, Earl Guthrie & the Box Wine Prophets, and more.

The family-friendly Hoot also has food trucks, food from local farms and beer from Apocalypse Brew Works, which created a special Kindness Session IPA just for the occasion.

Along with food, drinks, music and kindness, there also will be several activity stations for kids; free workshops; a movement circle featuring Tai Chi, belly dancing and hooping; a Massage-a-Thon that benefits St. Joe’s; aerial arts from Cirque de Louis and Turner’s Circus; a community jam open to all; and lots of free hugs — if that’s your thing.

Last year Insider profiled Hoot founders Aim Me Smiley and Renee Ananda, aka the Troubadours of Divine Bliss, who told us the festival began as a way for them to give back to the community and spread positivity and kindness.

“Mighty Kindness was founded to strengthen, highlight and unify what was already good and kind in our region,” they said. “We started affecting what we could right here in our community by strengthening the positive right around us. We realized this was the most effective action we could take.”

The 10th annual Mighty Kindness Hoot takes place from noon-7 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, at Waterfront Park’s Brown-Forman Amphitheater. It’s free and open to all.
