The task is simple — if you know your way around a bar: Create a cocktail using Four Roses Bourbon that complements one of the five shows in this season’s PNC Broadway in Louisville series. Between “Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella,” “Dirty Dancing,” “Cabaret,” “Motown the Musical” and “The Phantom of the Opera,” the options are endless for the first-ever Broadway & Bourbon Craft Cocktail Challenge, which will be held on Monday, July 27, at 8UP Elevated Drinkery and Kitchen.

Sponsored by Broadway in Louisville, Four Roses and the U.S. Bartender’s Guild (USBG), the event is open to the public free of charge, and guests can sample the bartenders’ creations, mingle with Broadway & Bourbon staff, enjoy Four Roses drink specials, and enter to win many door prizes.

The USBG made a call for recipes on July 15, and they currently are whittling down the list to five finalists, one for each production. Those five bartenders will compete at the Challenge for the ultimate prize — two opening night tickets, $500, and a bottle of Four Roses Special Reserve signed by Master Distiller Jim Rutledge.

The Broadway & Bourbon Craft Cocktail Challenge runs from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, July 27, at 8UP.

The first of Broadway in Louisville’s 2015-16 series is “Cinderella,” which runs Sept. 15-20.
