Haymarket Whiskey Bar hosts “Bourbon for Bottoms.” | Courtesy of Haymarket Whiskey Bar

Every couple months or so, Haymarket Whiskey Bar partners with a distillery to host a Charitable Barrels Fundraiser. The event also includes a staff takeover by an out-of-town bar, as well as signature cocktails, appetizers and live music — all for a reasonable price that goes to the selected charity.

On Thursday, Feb. 9, the latest Charitable Barrels Fundraiser will take place, and organizers are calling it, appropriately enough, “Bourbon for Bottoms,” because proceeds benefit the Colon Cancer Prevention Project. Bartenders from Indianapolis’ Thunderbird will make the trek down to serve up tasty drinks, which are sponsored this time by Old Forester.

The drink menu alone is worth the price of admission, and this month there are some crazy — yet delicious sounding — cocktails. For example, the frozen bourbon coffee colada with Old Forester 1920 sounds amazing, but so does the PB&J whiskey sour with Old Forester. But what really caught my eye was the banana manhattan made with Old Forester Signature. Yes please!

Along with the drinks, chefs from Locals Only will be making tandoori chicken skewers, falafel skewers and green tea panna cotta shooters for dessert. Live music will be provided by Steve Cooley & Friends.

Admission to “Bourbon for Bottoms” is $35 and includes everything mentioned above, plus goes to help fight colon cancer. The event runs from 7-10 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9. Haymarket Whiskey Bar is located at 331 E. Market St.

Matthew Landan, owner of Haymarket, says they’re already planning for the next Charitable Barrels, which will feature staff from Century Bar in Dayton, Ohio, and will benefit the Make A Wish Foundation. Jim Beam will be the sponsor distillery. Stay tuned for more details on that.
