East End bridge

The Indiana Department of Transportation, Indiana Finance Authority and WVB East End Partners have scheduled a number of public events  this month regarding the East End bridge, two on aesthetics and two on blasting and construction.

At the first set of events, INDOT, IFA and WVB officials will display renderings of the planned aesthetic and landscaping enhancement concepts for the bridge and tunnel.

They will include displays of “concepts pertaining to various design elements of the East End Crossing,” including walls, fences, railings, lighting, surface treatments and landscaping.

The events will not include formal presentations, according to a joint InDOT/IFA/WVB news release.

The first set of events are schedule for:

• Wednesday, April 17, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m at John Nobel Woods Utica Community Center, 106 N. Fourth St. in Utica, Ind.

•  Thursday, April 18, 2013, 6 to 9 p.m., First Baptist Church of Prospect, 8911 U.S. 42 in Prospect, Ky.

From the INDOT news release:

Visitors may arrive and view the displays at any time during the events and will be provided an opportunity to furnish written comments related to the displays. Project representatives will be available to answer questions about the aesthetic and landscaping concepts. No formal presentations will be made at these events.

At a second set of open houses, INDOT, IFA and WVB East End Partners will discuss planned blasting activities, traffic issues and other construction details, according to the release.

Attendees at the second round of meetings will receive information regarding pre-blast surveys that will be performed for structures within 500 feet of blasting areas on both sides of the river, as well as information about how monitoring will be done during blasting activities, according to the release.

 The second open house locations, dates and times are:

• Wednesday, April 24, 2013 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at John Nobel Woods Utica Community Center

• Thursday, April 25, 2013 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.m Springdale Community Church, East Campus, Main Building, 4601 Springdale Rd,

Attendees also will get a briefing on general timelines for blasting operations.

In addition, INDOT will provide information at the open house regarding the public’s opportunity to submit technical documentation in support of a request to prepare and implement blasting and vibration monitoring plans for additional historic structures.
