A few months ago, the name “CareSource” kept popping up when sources talked about Medicaid managed care in Kentucky.
Finally, we asked, “Who the heck is CareSource?”
The answer came back, “The second-largest managed-care organization in the United States. CareSource is Humana’s strategic partner in Kentucky’s Region 3, where Passport Health Plan is now. CareSource will be the actual service provider, not Humana.”
Last March, CareSource – a Dayton, Ohio-based non-profit – formed an alliance with Humana in Kentucky and Ohio. By last October, they had a deal with Kentucky to enter Region 3, which is the Medicaid region that includes Louisville and 15 surrounding counties.
Humana was chosen along with Passport Health Plan, WellCare Health Plans and Coventry Health Care to enter Region 3, which has solely been under Passport after the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Resources issued an RFP.
Though the change went into effect January 1, we got a news release today that CareSource has hired its first Kentucky executives.
Jon Copley is the new executive director, and Dr. Jeb Teichman is medical director, according to the release.
Both serve as directors for the Humana/CareSource alliance in Kentucky.
Copley comes to CareSource with more than 10 years of legal and operational management experience in the health care industry, according to the release. He was most recently director of Plan Operations at Kentucky Spirit Health Plan (Centene Corp.).
Copley received his Bachelor of Science degree from Campbellsville University and his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Kentucky College of Law. He is a member of the Kentucky Bar Association and sits on the Board of Directors for Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky. He is responsible for leading the business operations, providing strategic leadership and developing relationships in Kentucky.
Teichman has more than 26 years of medical experience and comes to CareSource as a pediatrician from Clark Physicians Group, Jeffersonville Pediatrics, in Jeffersonville, Indiana, and a Medical Reviewer from CareWise Health in Louisville, according to the release.
In his new role, he provides review and care management support to clinical programs and activities in Kentucky. Teichman earned a Bachelor of Arts from Adelphi University and a Master of Science and Doctor of Medicine from the University of Louisville. He served as Medical Staff President at Kosair Children’s Hospital and has been involved with the Kentucky and Indiana American Academy of Pediatrics, Humana Health Plans Quality Improvement Committee and MDWise Hoosier Alliance.
