It’s beginning to taste a lot like Christmas, especially when Miracle On Market opens for the third straight year on Friday, Nov. 23, offering holiday-themed cocktails, décor and sweet mugs and glassware you can take home — for a small donation.
Along with a new menu of naughty and nice cocktails — from Bad Santa and Yippie Ki Yay Mother F#%ker to Jingle Balls Nog and Gingerbread Flip — the bar is expanding this year, taking over both a space inside the Green Building and also Galaxie Bar.
Doug Petry, who runs Rye and Galaxie and serves as the beverage director of Miracle, tells Insider the bartenders will predominantly come from his two bars, but also will include “many of our friends from different bars across the city,” he says. “Expect to see plenty of familiar faces behind the bar.”
Miracle is part of an international movement of holiday-themed pop-up bars, which this year includes 80 locations throughout the world. They operate from Black Friday through New Year’s Eve, and proceeds benefit various charities. Petry tells us the sale of the glassware at Miracle on Market will go to Kentucky Refugee Ministries.
A glance at the cocktail menu turns up some drinks we’d definitely like to try, including the Snowball Old Fashioned (butterscotch rye whiskey, spiced Demerara, wormwood bitters and orange zest), the Nice Shot (rum, peppermint and chocolate), and the Gingerbread Flip (bourbon, gingerbread syrup, Elemakule tiki bitters, egg and nutmeg).
Petry says he’s most looking forward to the Christmas Carol Barrel (aged rum, Aquavit, amaro, pumpkin pie Demerara syrup, lime, vanilla, Angostura bitters).
Miracle On Market will be open beginning Friday, Nov. 23, from 5 p.m. to midnight on weekdays and 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. on weekends. Galaxie is located at 732 E. Market St.
