Because mayors like cake, too.

Admit it: You’ve always dreamed of having dessert with the mayor. Well, the Crescent Hill Community Council is about to make your dream come true.

On Thursday, Aug. 7, the council will play host to Dessert with the Mayor at United Crescent Hill Ministries. Crescent Hill residents are urged to make their best dessert to bring and share with their neighbors, friends and Mayor Greg Fischer.

Chocolate cake? It’s welcome. Huckleberry pie? Yep. Heck, you can even bring Jell-O if you want.

After a brief neighborhood meeting, the winners of the 2014 Spirit of Crescent Hill Awards will be honored. The awards have been bestowed annually since 1998 to those the community council recognizes for outstanding acts of neighborhood spirit. This year’s winners are: David Fountain, Holly Oldham Hawkins, Amy Parker, Tom Spicknall, Clough Venable, Tina Ward-Pugh and Crescent Hill Radio’s Kathy Weisbach.

After the awards, Fischer will join in the meeting and the vast array of desserts will be served. He will discuss current events, and attendees can talk with him about community issues, as well as force him to have thirds of that pie.

The event begins at 7 p.m., and it is free and family-friendly. United Crescent Hill Ministries is located 150 State St., just off Frankfort Avenue.
