The Hyatt Regency Louisville is, or soon will be, under new ownership.

Texas-based hotel investment and management firm Aimbridge Hospitality is buying the Hyatt Regency Louisville, located at 320 W. Jefferson St., according to a public notification noting a change in ownership on the property’s liquor license.

Aimbridge Hospitality also lists the hotel as one of its properties on its website, using the address of the hotel main entrance, 311 S. Fourth St. Insider reached out to Aimbridge Hospitality but did not immediately hear back.

It is unclear if the company has purchased or is still in the process of buying the hotel.

Insider heard in February that the Hyatt Regency Louisville was up for sale, but a representative with the owner Hyatt Hotels Corp. declined to comment. Hotels are not typically listed for sale publicly given the limited pool of buyers that can afford them.

Aimbridge Hospitality also owns Hyatt Place Louisville-East, located at 701 S. Hurstbourne Parkway.

Hyatt Hotels recently invested $14 million in the Louisville hotel to renovate its nearly 400 rooms. Prior to that, the rooms had not been renovated since 2005, and bathrooms had not been renovated since the 1970s, IL previously reported.

Back in 2011, the public spaces at the Hyatt Regency Louisville were renovated. The $5.8 million upgrades included a new front entrance, a new lobby and front desk, and a new fitness center. The opening of the restaurant and bar Sway was also part of the project.

The hotel has operated in Louisville for decades, but according to county property records, Hyatt Hotels only bought the land the hotel sits on in 2012. The hotel company paid $8 million to the previous owner, the Commonwealth of Kentucky, property records show.

Notably, other downtown hotels have been on the market in the last couple of years. The 111-year-old historic Seelbach Hilton Hotel was listed last summer.

“The only reason we are selling it is the fund that owns it is near the end of its liquidation period. It’s a great hotel, and we would otherwise be happy to continue to own it,” Bruce Wiles, chief operating officer at Maryland-based Thayer Lodging, previously told Insider Louisville. Thayer Lodging, along with Jin Jiang Hotels, is a part owner of the Seelbach Hilton Hotel.

The Galt House Hotel at one point was for sale as well. However, potential buyer Columbia Sussex Corp. backed out following turmoil amid the family. The Al J. Schneider Co., which owns the Galt House Hotel, has since brought on a new CEO as well as a chief investment officer and vice president of human resources.

The company is no longer looking for buyers for any of its properties, including Waterfront Plaza office building, according to Amanda Lambert, a spokeswoman for The Al J. Schneider Co. “Nothing’s for sale.”
