Nick Such, co-founder of Awesome Inc, will speak at August’s Venture Connectors lunch:
Venture Connectors is pleased to host Awesome Inc co-founder Nick Such as its featured speaker at the Aug. 6 luncheon event. He will share some of the reasons he and his partners started a school that helps startups create their own software.
Awesome Inc launched in 2009 and has started (and shuttered) several different initiatives with the goal of growing the startup community in Central Kentucky. Over time, Such and his partners began to see too many startups that didn’t have a product, hadn’t made any sales and didn’t have more than a pitch deck.
They started Awesome Inc U during the summer of 2013 to teach people how to turn their ideas into something tangible. Awesome Inc U offers both hands-on and online software development courses attended by students, independent entrepreneurs and corporate teams. The company’s core philosophy is that anyone can learn to code. Since 2013, 178 people ages 9 to 55 have gone through the company’s “1-Day Crash Courses,” and nearly 1,000 K-12 students participated in its “Hour of Code” activities in December.
Such previously co-founded indoor mapping startup BuildingLayer. He also designed and raced alternative fuel vehicles with the University of Kentucky’s Solar Car Team. He serves as an organizer and facilitator for Startup Weekend, and is actively involved with OpenLexington, the local Code for America Brigade.
Venture Connectors’ luncheon meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at the Muhammad Ali Center, 144 N. Sixth St. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., and the meeting runs from noon-1:15 p.m. Registration is required at:

Kent Oyler, still new-ish head of Greater Louisville, Inc., will speak and answer questions at a Forge event that evening.
Kent Oyler is one of Louisville’s greatest entrepreneurs. Having started 19 businesses, including the largest IPO in Kentucky history, and with years of angel investing experience, Kent has a unique perspective to assist Louisville’s startup ecosystem. Needless to say, we are very excited to have someone with an entrepreneurial mindset leading GLI, and we could never pass up the opportunity to have a conversation with Kent, who has been super great in supporting Forge. First, Kent would like 10-15 minutes to explain where GLI and Enterprise Corp. see the entrepreneurial community going. Then, we want to switch this to more of a forum format with Kent taking questions and receiving feedback. It is very much an opportunity to express our thoughts, without the need for consultants. As always, free Falls City Beer and good times will abound.
When: Wednesday, August 6, 6:30-8 p.m.
Where: The Green Building, 732 E. Market St.
Cost: Free, but Registration Required.
