It’s always worth heading over to the Germantown/Schnitzelburg area just to go to Check’s Cafe, but add a blues festival and it’s almost not fair.
Starting tonight at the corner of Hickory Street and Burnett Avenue is the fifth annual Germantown Schnitzelburg Blues Festival. It’s two nights of live blues in street-party form.
The Wild Turkey Bourbon-sponsored street fest will host three blues bands both evenings starting at 6:30 p.m. and continuing until midnight. And if you get hungry, you can duck inside Check’s for a fried bologna sandwich.
Admission is free and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Kosair Charities; bring a lawn chair and chill out.
Here are the band lineups:
Friday, June 6:
6:30 – 8 p.m.: Noah Wotherspoon
8:30 – 10 p.m.: da Mudcats
10:30 – midnight: The Beat Daddys
Saturday, June 7:
6:30 – 8 p.m.: Big Poppa Stampley & Voodou Gumbo
8:30 – 10 p.m.: G Miles & the Hit Men
10:30 – midnight: Lamont Gillispie & 100 Proof
Byron Davies, local blues bass player, along with Lamont Gillispie and 100 Proof, will be honored on this year’s festival T-shirt.
