Adding to the local farmers market scene this summer is the Greenmarket Popup, organized by Louisville Farm to Table, on Wednesday at Fresh Start Growers’ Supply in NuLu.
The popup market will be a way for local and large-scale buyers to connect with Kentucky farmers. It’ll allow buyers to meet directly with farmers, purchase and discuss growing methods, and set up future purchasing arrangements. It recalls the days of the Louisville Haymarket, long before Walmarts, Targets and Krogers.
Louisville Farm to Table was created by Louisville Metro Government to help Kentucky farmers and food processors find markets for their products. The organization is a result of efforts by the Local Food Economy Work Group, a collaborative effort of elected officials from Henry, Oldham, Shelby, Spencer and Trimble counties and the cities of Shelbyville and Louisville.
Kentucky author and farmer Wendell Berry also contributed to the creation of Farm to Table.
The Greenmarket Popup is free and open to the public. Items for purchase will include produce, meat, cheese, eggs and tomatoes as well as USDA-certified organic foods. Wholesale prices will be available for those wishing to purchase larger quantities.
The event runs from 10 a.m.-noon on Wednesday, July 26, at Fresh Start Growers’ Supply, 1007 E. Jefferson St.
