Mickey Meece

Mickey Meece begins Aug. 15 as managing editor of Insider Louisville.

Insider Louisville has hired veteran journalist Mickey Meece to serve as managing editor. Most recently Meece was a staff editor at The New York Times, where she previously covered business, finance, features and other topics. Beginning on Aug. 15, she will oversee daily news coverage and help lead the editorial team at Insider Louisville.

“Mickey brings with her a wealth of journalism experience, and she will be an asset to IL as our news operation continues to gain momentum,” said Sarah Kelley, executive editor and VP of content at Insider Louisville.

Meece is a native of Louisville, a Kentucky Colonel and a graduate of the University of Kentucky. Before you ask — what high school did she go to? — she spent those years in Ashland (and graduated from Holy Family High School).

Even though she bleeds blue, she proudly served as adviser to The Louisville Cardinal newspaper for four years, where her students during one long weekend produced “Unbreakable: Louisville’s Inspired 2013 Championship Run.”

She worked at The New York Times for 13 years in various capacities on the business and features desk, including assistant to the editor, small business editor, weekend editor and staff editor.

Meece served as executive editor of USAA Magazine, the Money magazine for military families for a year. She writes about travel (“What to See in Muhammad Ali’s Louisville,” and business, “Bourbon’s All-American Roar.” She has written about consumer issues for Forbes.com, as well as small business, personal finance and technology articles for The Times.

She was an editor for the American Banker newspaper, where she reported on the credit card industry (and loves to brag that she attended the Olympic Games in Atlanta to report on Visa’s sponsorship).

Meece and her spouse are excited to return to Louisville and to the house they have restored in Old Louisville.

In her new role at Insider Louisville, she hopes to start a lot of conversations with Louisville residents to find out what they want to see covered on a daily basis. You can reach her here: [email protected]
