Gill Holland, left, and Metro Mayor Greg Fischer last Wednesday at the NuLu celebration.

When we created Insiders Meetups eight weeks ago, we had a modest goal – to get Louisville’s most exciting people together for a few minutes of networking and relaxing at Vincenzo’s.

Which – to be candid – proved to have a lot more appeal than we ever anticipated. (Of course, admission to Insiders Meetups is everyone’s favorite price …. free.)

Then, we started adding brief presentations by guests. And voilà … we turned dreaded Mondays into the highlights of our week.

Mon., Nov. 4, we’ll have our first double-header.

Metro Mayor Greg Fischer is making the rounds, presenting his vision of how a small amount of dedicated revenue for a fixed amount of time could finance transformative projects. We heard his pitch Tuesday at the Nucleus-NuLu Connector Thank You reception for the Jefferson County legislative delegation, and agree or disagree, the mayor makes compelling points.

Chip Hamm

Also scheduled to attend … there is no more wry speaker in Louisville than entrepreneur Chip Hamm.

Hamm, who’s also an attorney for Louisville-based Miller Wells law firm, will talk about his many, many projects.

Those projects include the 9,000-square-foot restaurant planned at Steve Poe’s RiverPark Place development, the effort to franchise Comfy Cow ice cream parlors and his work with chefs Steve and Michael Ton and master sommelier Brett Davis developing Doc Crow’s Southern Smokehouse and Raw Bar, La Coop and other Louisville restaurants.

The Union Common rendering.

A rendering of Union Common in Nashville.

Ton, Davis, Hamm & Co., as DC Management Corp., plan to take the Doc Crow’s concept to Brentwood, Tenn., as well as open a steakhouse concept, Union Common, in Nashville proper.

We’re pretty sure we’ve left out some details, which we’re hoping he’ll fill in Monday.

(Clearly, Chip Hamm is a guy who doesn’t watch a lot of TV.)

So, now you know our secret agenda: Grab a drink, meet other Insiders and have fun.

Monday Insiders Meetups are from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Vincenzo’s offers free valet parking (beginning at 5 p.m.) and drink and bar menu specials.

Barkeep Joe Riggs, left, and events manager Jonathan Tarullo provided us with hors d’oeuvres last week. We can’t promise that each time, though they always come through.

The event is open to the first 50 Insiders who register at Eventbrite here.

Vincenzo’s is located at 150 S. Fifth Street.
