art walks the runway“Wearable art” is basically a step beyond haute couture fashion. It’s not only original and exclusive, it’s more art than fashion (frankly, some wearable art pieces are “wearable” in name only).

Come see original designs by Project Runway All-Star Gunnar Deatherage, renowned glass artist Laura Donefer, and KMAC featured paper artist Michael Velliquette at the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft’s Couture Art Walks the Runway event on Friday, April 17.

This is the third year for the event, which has expanded greatly and will be held under a white tent at the Green Building in NuLu to accommodate the larger audience. The size of the audience is impressive considering tickets start at $175 a pop.

Hors d’oeuvres, provided by Rye, and signature Old Forester cocktails will be available at 7 p.m. The runway show will begin at 8 p.m. with an after party following the event.

The runway fashions are original hand-executed designs in both traditional fabrics and non-traditional materials.

The artists and designers who were chosen for the 2015 KMAC Couture are: Harcourt Allen, Brianne Bowers, Raegan Campbell, Maui Crane, Wendy Cudmore, Gunnar Deatherage, Laura Donefer, Andrea Glass, Typh Hainer-Merwarth, Megan Heinsohn, Frances Lewis, Zach Lindsey, Anita Oldham, Willa Petit, Liz Richter, Butch Sager, Cassie Tatum, Guy Tedesco, Raina Trimble, Michael Velliquette, Claire Williams and Lauren Woods.

Also participating are a handful of du Pont Manual High School visual art students: New Chen, Emma Collins, Michael Crawford, Peyton Froula, Alisa Morozova, Sarah Priddy, Abby Sowers and Brooks Vessels.
