Louisville musician Joan Shelley has just notched an impressive win for her career, as she was prominently featured on the Oct. 6 episode of the popular NPR program the “World Café.”

Yet this breakthrough wouldn’t have happened had Shelley not first enjoyed local public radio support.

According to the “World Café” website, this is how Shelley came to their attention:

“World Café first heard about Joan Shelley from WFPK in Louisville during our Sense Of Place visit earlier this year. Then, we offered a track from her second album, Ginko. Now, the singer-songwriter has a new album out, her third, titled Electric Ursa.”

“It is a very intimate album that really sucks you into her work,” said David Dye, “World Café host, about Shelley on the program.

Two tracks from Shelley were played — “First of August” and “Rising Air.”

“First of August” was recorded with contemporary and fellow Kentuckian Daniel Martin Moore.

Shelley is touring to support the album, with an Oct. 24 Louisville date at Zanzabar. For more tour information, click here.
