Can Louisville support a professional soccer team?

Louis Waterman and other businessmen say “yes.”

Louis will be our guest at the next Insiders Meetup, along with presenting sponsor Tim Mulloy, Mulloy Commercial Real Estate.

Louis, a family law attorney and soccer enthusiast, will discuss the possibility of a professional soccer team, the Louisville Coopers, coming to Louisville as early as 2015. The plan is for the Louisville team to be a minor league-style affiliate to the Orlando MLS team, much as the Louisville Bats are to the Cincinnati Reds.

These days, so many kids play soccer at school and at clubs. Louisville has more and more residents coming from countries where “football” isn’t merely a sport, it’s a religion.

But in the long run, is there enough interest in Louisville to support the Louisville Coopers? Join us for the Insiders Meetup Monday, March 17, at Z’s Oyster Bar & Steakhouse downtown and find out.

Insiders Meetups are free and open to the first 100 Insiders who register here at Eventbrite.

(Read Kevin Gibson’s Insider Louisville post on initial interest in a pro soccer team here.)

While you’re there, meet other Insiders and get the story behind the story, the great inside information we hear throughout the week.

Z’s Oyster Bar and Steakhouse is at Fourth and Market, just across from the Aegon Center. Mehrzad Sharbiani and his team will host us in the cosmopolitan atmosphere of the private dining room. Z’s will offer drink and bar menu specials (get the oysters!).

The event is free, and the parking garage is adjacent to the restaurant. Bring in your parking ticket for a stamp and get $1 parking during the event.

The Man!

Attire is business casual. Or soccer formal, so wear your best Lionel Messi jersey.

A reminder: March 24, our guest will be Dave Adkisson, president and CEO of the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce. Dave will talk about brighter days ahead for Kentucky businesses. This is already shaping up to be a mega-event, so register here in advance. And note this Insiders Meetup will be at Z’s East End location, 101 Whittington Parkway at Shelbyville Road.
