It’s that time of year again, when Louisville’s private schools fling open their doors and welcome prospective new students and parents a look inside.

Here’s a quick run-down of the whens and whats of Louisville’s private school open houses.

• Kentucky Country Day (co-ed, K-12)

KCD invites the entire family to come check out the school’s curriculum, programs and facilities. Tours will be offered by parents and student ambassadors between 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m on Sun., Oct 20. Free Graeter’s ice cream, too!

• Louisville Collegiate School (co-ed, JK-12)

Collegiate offers two “See Us in Action” days offer parents a first-hand look at a typical day in the life of a JK-12 Collegiate student.

• Trinity High School (boys, 9-12)

Trinity’s open house is on Sun. Nov. 10 from noon to 5 p.m. Check out their snazzy website and YouTube video here. There’s also a place where you can sign up to receive more information.

Great marketing line: “Whatever you’re good at, be great at it here.”

• St. Xavier High School (boys, 9-12)

Wouldn’t you know it, but St. X has its open house on the same day as Trinity: Nov. 10 from noon to 4:00 p.m.

Get a first-hand look at the academic programs, see our outstanding facilities and feel the spirit of brotherhood that makes St. X the leader in secondary education in the Louisville area. Families will have the option of experiencing the Tiger Walk, a unique, self guided tour that allows families to tour the school at their own pace and get a feel of what it is like to be a student at St. X. Teachers will be in the hallways to assist families. Families will also have the option to experience the Tiger Walk with a formal tour led by one of our students. See our Sterne Gym come to life with moderators, coaches, students and faculty demonstrating why St. X is more than just a school. Information about clubs and sports programs will be available.

• Assumption High School (girls, 9-12)

On Dec. 5 at 6:30 p.m. interested students and families can tour Assumption, visit with students and faculty and get information about academics, clubs, athletics, and campus ministry. Informational presentations will be offered in the Convocation and Athletic Center and The Humana Foundation Performing and Fine Arts Center on the following topics:

  • Learning Differences: an explanation of the programs available for students with diagnosed learning differences
  • Advanced Placement & McAuley Scholars: overview of programs for academically gifted students
  • Performing and Fine Arts: performances by the cast of The King and I, advanced choir, and bell choir
  • Displays and presentations by athletics and student clubs
  • Refreshments in the cafeteria
  • Free gifts for prospective students
  • Tablet PC technology demonstrations throughout the building
  • And much more!

• Walden School (co-ed, K-12)

On Nov. 5 from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. you can drop in on Walden School and meet parents, teachers and students. The Head of School will be holding roundtable discussions at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. And the school promises some “playground fun from 10:40 a.m. until 11:40 a.m.

There is also a separate open house for the high school on Nov. 12 at 6:30 p.m. where you can learn more about the 9-12 programming and infrastructure.

• Highlands Latin School (co-ed, K-12)

Highlands Latin, a Christian Classical school that still uses the “house” system– like Hogwarts!– an teaches Latin to all students. Their open house is Nov. 10.

Crescent Hill: 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
Spring Meadows: 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.
