IMG_1444-Coffee-open-for-blog-300x225Darcy Thompson is the Director of Louisville Story Program. Last year, Darcy ran a successful Kickstarter campaign where he raised over $10,000 to fund the program. Come and hear about how he was able to raise those funds what the Louisville Story Program has produced since then.

The Louisville Story Program helps historically underrepresented Louisville residents write and publish books about their lives and neighborhoods, and pays them for their work. Authors attend comprehensive instructional workshops, over many months, as they write, interview, photograph, and edit their hearts out, culminating in beautiful books that our community needs. Combining autobiography, oral history, and photography, the books provide rich, accurate portraits of citizens living in neighborhoods that have been historically marginalized and depicted in ways that are one-dimensional, un-nuanced, and overwhelmingly negative. We help our authors promote dialogue across the community by incorporating outreach into the curriculum, and by generating excitement and publicity around the time of publication.
