If you live in Louisville and are into technology or entrepreneurship, you could be double- or triple-booked just about any night of the week with social, educational and business development opportunities.

The Louisville Digital Association’s crowded and almost exhaustive calendar is a testament to this. As is the Insider Louisville email inbox.

And more and more we’re seeing opportunities that combine the social with education and development – chances to have a pint of beer, meet new friends and gain resources and support that you need to launch your startup.

Pub Summits started in 2012 with 50 invite-only Summits, mostly in Europe, where people hobknobbed, networked and pitched their ideas. The most promising ideas were elected to advance to a global Web Summit.

This year, Pub Summits are expanding to 100 cities in 40 countries, and Louisville is one of them. The event is free and open to any technology industry members, including entrepreneurs, programmers, bloggers, investors and anyone involved with web design and development.

The event will be capped at 150 attendees, so you must register to secure your place.

The organization is using these Pub Summits to source 200 promising startups to attend and compete at their “Spark of Genius” contest at the Web Summit in Dublin, Ireland, in October.

Pub Summit Louisville will be held on April 23 at 7 p.m. at RiRa’s Irish Pub on Fourth Street Live.

Free food will be provided courtesy of Velocity, Southern Indiana’s newest business accelerator. The event is also co-hosted by Blackstone Media.

Startups may submit a one-minute pitch video which will be voted on by the public at large and will have the opportunity to present their one minute pitch in person at the event. Two minutes of Q & A will follow each pitch. Startups wishing to apply to Spark of Genius and anyone wishing to attend can sign up at www.LouisvillePubSummit.com.

If the infographic on their website is to be believed, Pub Summits are looking at 100,000 pints of beer being consumed by 30,000 attendees. That’s more than 3 pints per person, so we bet we’ll be seeing some pretty entertaining pitches at RiRa.
