Carmichael’s Bookstore is hosting the publication party for the debut of former “Top Chef” star Edward Lee’s new cookbook “Smoke & Pickles: Recipes and Stories from a New Southern Kitchen.”
Lee, owner and chef of 610 Magnolia and MilkWood, is scheduled to discuss the book and sign copies 7 p.m. Thursday, April 25 at the Frankfort Avenue Charmichael’s.
“Smoke and Pickles” is more than a simple cookbook; it also tells the story of Lee’s life and his journey as a chef, reflecting his Korean roots, his classical French training and his Louisville home.
In the book’s promotional material, Gail Simmons, editor of “Food & Wine” magazine and a judge on the television show “Top Chef,” calls Edward a “vital force in modern American cooking” and TV super star chef Anthony Bourdain calls him “one of America’s most important young chefs.”
Also of note from Carmichael’s, Tuesday is World Book Night, a global book-giving event that encourages reading, particularly for those who don’t regularly do so. Louisville is the third largest city of participating book givers in the country. Carmichael’s has some boxes of books available for distribution.
