El Taco Luchador in St. Matthews opens to the public for lunch at 11 a.m. today, Aug. 24, but yesterday, some were invited to give the new location a test drive.

Those who’ve been to the Highlands spot will immediately note the size of the St. Matthews store. While the Baxter Avenue location may be able to seat about 30 people total, the St. Matthews incarnations can fit more than that just inside, with room to spare on its spacious outdoor patio.

Similar to the Highlands, though, parking near 112 Meridian Ave. can be a bit tricky during certain times of the day.

The Mexican eatery serves tacos, tortas, maduros and more, and prices range from $3.25 to $10.25. The menu at the St. Matthews location is nearly the same, but some items have been changed up or added, such as the new Mexican Crunchy Salad and margaritas. The Highlands store offers beer only.

Hours of operation at the St. Matthews location are 11 a.m.-2 p.m. for lunch and 4-9 p.m. for dinner Monday through Thursday; 11 a.m.-2 p.m. for lunch and 4-10 p.m. for dinner Fridays; and noon-3 p.m. for lunch and 5-10 p.m. for dinner Saturdays. The restaurant is closed Sundays.

With a second El Taco Luchador open, it could be only a matter of time before owner Fernando Martinez looks to expand even further. He’s previously mentioned Prospect or Middletown as places he’d be interested in potentially bringing the Luchador brand.

However, with Martinez, it can be hard to tell. Who knows, maybe he will dream up a completely new concept to add to his cadre of six restaurant concepts.
