Let’s be honest. Summer vacation is a joy and a blessing. But by mid-July, even the parents of the most perfect children are silently looking forward to school starting again. Just a little bit. Right?

Well, the Louisville Regional Airport Authority and the Aviation Museum of Kentucky are giving you the chance to put your sweet children on a plane. Literally.

LRAA is offering a two-day aviation camp for children 10-16 years old at Bowman Field July 16-17. No, your kids won’t be up-up-and-awaying solo by the end of the two days, but they will learn to plot a flight path and co-pilot a flight with an FAA-certified instructor.

At the airport, kids will use a flight simulator to practice takeoff, landing, navigation and reading aircraft instruments. Students will learn aviation history and learn to interpret aeronautical maps, weather and air traffic control information. There will also be a glider competition.

The tuition, which is $269, includes lunch, snacks and a camp T-shirt. There may be financial aid available, and there is an application for the camp and for aid on the website. Other two-day aviation camps are available across Kentucky. For other dates and locations, click here.
