Katniss Everdeen, Indiana Jones and a man-eating shark will be making their way to the Belvedere this summer.
Starting Friday, the Louisville Film Society and the Kentucky Center for the Arts present Family Film Night on the Belvedere featuring three blockbuster films: “The Hunger Games,” “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and “Jaws.” The events are free and open to the public.
“The Hunger Games” will kick off the series on Friday, June 23. The 2012 film is based on the book series by Suzanne Collins and stars Louisville native Jennifer Lawrence in the lead role.
Next up is 1981’s “Raiders of the Lost Ark” on Friday, July 7. Directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Harrison Ford, “Raiders” is the first installment of the action adventure film series and places Indiana Jones against Nazis in pre-World War II Egypt in the search for the Ark of the Covenant.
The third and final film will be the 1975 classic “Jaws” on Friday, Aug. 11. “Jaws” is one of Spielberg’s first major theatrical releases and is considered to be one of the first summer blockbusters.
No tickets are required for the Family Film Night on the Belvedere film series, and you’re encouraged to bring your own chairs, blankets, coolers and snacks — although you can’t bring alcoholic beverages. (There will be a bar on site for those goods.) The Belvedere lawn in front of the Kentucky Center opens at 8 p.m., and the films begin at 8:45 p.m. each Friday.
