The design for this year’s Kentucky Derby Festival Pegasus Pin was released Friday morning, and while it’s not a mythical creature with wings, it is quite catchy. It’s a nod to the organizations’ new spiffy jackets, which staff wear all year round and, during the two weeks leading up to the Derby, practically 24/7.
The official uniform jackets received a much-needed makeover last year, going from a bland and dull beige to a vivacious, eye-catching hot pink. Due to the positive response to the change, organizers decided to make the new pink jackets the image on this year’s Derby Festival pin.
“The new jackets were such a hit with Festival fans, we wanted everyone to have their own miniature version,” said Mike Berry, president and chief executive of the Kentucky Derby Festival, in a news release.
The 47th edition of the pin will be released in March and can be found at grocery stores, gas stations, banks and other retail outlets throughout Louisville. The pins get you free admission into most Derby Festival events and offer opportunities to win various prizes, especially if you get the highly coveted gold version.
The pins will retail for $6.
