Cincinnati-based restaurant chain Tom+Chee has closed its final Louisville location following a maintenance problem at its Highlands store.

Tom+Chee was one of three restaurants operating in the building at 1702 Bardstown Road. After a pipe burst, Tom+Chee, SuperChefs and Sapporo Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi closed because of flooding.

The latter two reopened last week, but at the time, Tom+Chee was still waiting to make an announcement.

Tuesday morning, however, the company posted on Facebook that it would not reopen. The company also operated a store in St. Matthews, but closed it last year; the location is now home to Highland Morning.

“Unfortunately due to the impact of the recent events in our facility, we have made the decision to not reopen the Bardstown Rd. Tom+Chee. We appreciate your patronage over the last several years and hope to have a Tom+Chee again in the Louisville area in the future,” according to the Facebook post.

Insider Louisville reached out to Tom+Chee for more information about the closure and its possible re-entry into the Louisville market. The company did not immediately respond.

Tom+Chee has restaurants in 15 states. The nearest for Louisville fans are in Evansville, Ind.

Property manager Rohit Nahata, of Keller Williams Realty in Louisville, said in an interview on Tuesday that he is searching for a new tenant for the more than 2,000-square-foot restaurant space.

The former Tom+Chee space, which experienced the brunt of the flooding, is in the process of drying out, Nahata said, adding that the owners also were making “small little improvements” like new paint and toilet seats.

“The location is obviously great. It’s just finding the right fit,” Nahata said, adding that he expects another restaurant concept to move in. “It would make the most sense.”

He’s hoping to find a tenant that will serve lunch and dinner as well as bar service, which he said would allow the restaurant to maximize its revenue potential.
