It’s a little bit Out-of-the-Ville, but Holly Hill Inn in Midway seems like a great special occasion field trip from the city, and their Winter Dinner Club series is really intriguing.

Inspired by the Jules Verne novel “Around the World in 80” days, Chef Ouita Michel will lead diners on a culinary tour with a different cuisine “stop” every weekend starting Jan. 4-5.

From the release:

In 1872, the year in which the novel is set, the fastest ways to travel such distances were by boat and by rail. We, however, will follow Napoleon’s advice for armies and travel on our stomachs. The tour begins Jan. 4-5 in London, with a contemporary British menu. Then each weekend thereafter, Chef Ouita Michel’s cuisine reflects a stop along adventurer Phileas Fogg’s travels.

From London, Chef Ouita’s menu crosses the English Channel to Paris, proceeds through Italy and the Middle East, across India, stops in Siam, visits various ports of call in China, then crosses the Pacific and arrives in San Francisco. Proceeding east, we will stop for a serious steak dinner in Omaha, then head on to New York. Crossing the Atlantic, we will make a final stop in Dublin, Ireland, to celebrate Easter, and then return to Kentucky. For the weekend of Valentine’s Day, we will make a quick layover in Paris to feature our annual aphrodisiac menu.

Potato and beet crisps stacked with crème fraiche, smoked salmon, and dill, with parsley, cucumber and cured lemon vinaigrette

Delicate white sausage of chicken, truffle and cream, with pickled shallot, chiffonade of red cabbage and mustard vinaigrette
Cauliflower and Cheese
Cauliflower cream, risotto and roasted fleurettes of cauliflower

Lamb Wellington
Beautiful medallion of lamb, layered with mushroom duxelle, wrapped in puff pastry
with rich lamb glace, braised baby onions and Three Springs winter vegetables 

Mushroom Wellington
With roast portabella mushrooms, oyster mushrooms and shiitake mushrooms, braised and wrapped with leeks, spinach and puff pastry

Double Chocolate Bombe
Chocolate sponge cake, filled with layers of dark chocolate and white chocolate mousse, whiskey-soaked cherries, and finished with kirsch ganache
