On days like today, Waterfront Wednesdays seem so far away. Thankfully WFPK launched a new music series last fall to help us fill the cold, cold void in these Waterfront Wednesdayless months.
WFPK Winter Wednesdays continues on Jan. 30 with Matt Costa and Joan Shelley at the Clifton Center.
Costa is a pop-folk singer-songwriter from Huntington Beach, CA who has toured with Jack Johnson, Modest Mouse and Oasis. His latest recording, the EP “Sacred Hills” was released digital-only in November of 2012.
Here’s the video for his adorably peppy song “Mr. Pitiful.”
Local singer-songwriter Joan Shelley spent a good part of the fall of 2012 touring Ireland, England, and Spain with Daniel Martin Moore. Peter Margask of the Chicago Readers said Shelley “sings with striking intimacy, as though addressing someone sitting just a few feet away, but she can also really project — and when the band builds up a head of steam, she lets loose without losing control.”
The Clifton Center is located at 2117 Payne St.
The concerts are free and open to the public, but preferred seating is available to members of 91.9 WFPK and the Friends of the Clifton Center. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The music will start at approximately 7:30 p.m.
The final concert date for the 2012-2013 season is Feb. 27.
