A tow vessel pushing 15 dry cargo barges struck a wall at Waterfront Park on Friday morning. Coast Guard officials said equipment failure caused the barge to strike the wall at the Great Lawn, causing mostly cosmetic damage.

No injuries were reported. Officials said there is no public safety concern and no spillage.

Officials with Waterfront Development Corporation said this is just the fourth time in 20 years that a barge has hit a wall surrounding the Great Lawn.

Repairs could reportedly take up to a year to complete due to high water levels and insurance claims.

The barge will reportedly be moved to a fleeting area to be examined.
