From the color-changing canopy over the building to the customizable LED lights in the ballroom, the technology at the renovated Kentucky International Convention Center (KICC) is dazzling. But even behind-the-scenes the tech is spectacular. Advanced Wi-Fi capabilities and high-definition audiovisual systems were incorporated into the redesign. KICC has state-of-the-art technological functionality from top to bottom.

The stage crew

For Shane Fisher, director of operations for Prestige AV & Creative Services, it’s impressive because of its potential to set the perfect scene for any event and every occasion. Prestige is the preferred AV partner of KICC and the Kentucky Exposition Center and is the on-site resource to help clients with everything from customized themes, rooms and exhibits to audio-visual design, production and equipment.

“What we really offer is peace of mind,” says Fisher. “KICC clients don’t need to work with multiple vendors. We serve as a single, in-house source to design, execute and manage the process from start to finish.”

The venue

The $207 million-dollar investment allowed for infrastructure renovations to the 940,000+ square feet of space. With 52 newly renovated meeting rooms, a 175-seat tiered conference theatre, and the expanded exhibit hall and ballroom, the convention center lends itself to creating customized settings.

It’s not just the space that makes the KICC stand out. It’s the services the facility offers as well. Here are just a few of the technical details:

Over 1.5 million dollar investment in network and Wi-Fi infrastructure.

Over 330 High Density Access Points installed.

The following amount of cable/infrastructure installed:

  • 281,000’horizontal fiber
  • 590,000’ backbone fiber
  • 707,000’copper horizontal
  • 590,000’ copper backbone
  • 400,000’ DAS backbone fiber

In fact, KICC is a versatile venue ready to accommodate any production, from a multi-room business conference or exhibition with thousands of attendees to an upscale gala or a more intimate celebration with family and friends.

The production

Some events may spotlight a keynote speaker or a video montage. Others may have music at the forefront or softly serenading guests in the background. Regardless of the focus, top-notch audiovisuals are critical and that’s where the new convention center’s redesign comes into play.

“The technology was built into the facility,” explains Fisher, not patched together over time. The quality of the sound is pitch perfect and the on-screen visuals are clear and crisp. And the integrated tech means video can be routed easily to other areas so even when all the guests won’t fit into one space, everyone can still see and hear what’s going on in the main event room.

Fisher also says his company’s expertise combined with the flexibility of the space means there is no limit when it comes to incorporating a theme into any event. With the LED wall lights in the expanded, column-less ballroom guests can literally take a walk in the park or feel the magic of a tropical paradise.

“We also can design and build sets or create graphics that will carry the theme throughout the room or on-screen,” he adds, and they’ll even handle the lighting to create the perfect mood.

Rave reviews

“It’s a seamless experience for KICC clients and guests,” explains Fisher. “We’ll create professional multi-media presentations, videos and other materials, bring in the right equipment and staff, and make sure it all works together during their event.”

Whether the goal is to inform, inspire or celebrate, Fisher and his team bring the creativity and technical know-how to make the most of everything KICC has to offer and make every event uniquely unforgettable.
