New uses for soybeans

Researchers at the University of Louisville Conn Center for Renewable Energy Research and Department of Mechanical Engineering are working to transform soy hulls left over from soybean processing into a healthy sugar. The United Soybean Board has awarded UofL $350,000 to use soy hulls to modify fiber composites for 3D printing and produce the sugar substitute xylose.

HBCUs get boost from Apple

Simmons College, one of the nation’s 101 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) will benefit from a $25 million investment from Apple. The investment will create a virtual learning hub with curriculum such as AI and machine learning, agricultural technologies, social justice, augmented reality, design and creativity, career preparation, and entrepreneurship tracks.

KYTC offers scholarships for civil engineering students

KYTC will award up to 30 new scholarships for the 2021-2022 school year to prospective and current college students pursuing civil engineering and engineering technology degrees. The deadline for applications is Feb. 1, 2021.
