Airport breaks ground on geothermal project

The Louisville Regional Airport Authority celebrated the beginning of the largest geothermal system of any airport in the country with a formal ground-breaking ceremony. Using geothermal technology, the $21.7 million project will save energy by using the earth’s natural temperature to heat and cool the Jerry E. Abramson Terminal. It also marks another major milestone of the SDF NEXT Programme, which will see a $400 million investment in improvements to the airfield and terminal in the coming years.

Heumann launches software platform

Jeffersonville, Indiana-based industrial manufacturer Heumann Environmental Co. LLC has launched Heumann Software Co., and its first software platform allows customers to design their own cyclones used to separate particles from gas streams. The company has invested nearly $200,000 in the development of the software and launch of the new subsidiary.

UofL’s 2021 haul for groundbreaking research

The University of Louisville secured a record $201.5 million during the 2021 fiscal year to support groundbreaking research. That funding, an increase of more than $30 million over the previous record set a year earlier, supported work to address global problems, such as climate change and battling the COVID-19 pandemic. The past fiscal year also saw the launch of two startups based on university born technology, according to a press release.

New facility comes to Central Kentucky

California-based Community Wellness Technology Inc. is investing $15 million in a new facility in Central Kentucky. The operation will develop comprehensive and fully integrated remote patient monitoring and behavioral health services for COVID-19 patients and those managing other chronic conditions. The project will create 450 jobs, including clinical health coaches, patient support staff and IT roles.
