Talaris’ initial public offering

Talaris Therapeutics announced its initial public offering of 8,825,000 shares of common stock at a price of $17 per share. Talaris is a late-clinical stage cell therapy company that is based in both Louisville and Boston. Their NASDAQ listing is TALS.

Forecastr closes funding round

Louisville financial modeling software startup Forcastr closed on a $2.5 million seed fundraising round. The round included national investors, as well as a few angel investors from both local and national firms.

GE Appliances and Interapt partner 

PBS NewsHour Correspondent Paul Solman visited Louisville to report on the apprenticeship program offered by technology services firm Interapt at GE Appliances’ SmartHome business. Apprentices working on these projects will gain additional certifications to help grow their careers.

Goodwill Industries of Kentucky has launched Project Overcome, a virtual reality experience that helps individuals with criminal backgrounds secure employment. Clients go through a mock interview simulation and the feedback helps them sharpen their responses.

New research at UK

A research team at UK’s Center for Applied Energy Research has gotten a grant to develop a process that would make capturing carbon dioxide (CO2) from coal-fired power plants and industrial facilities significantly less expensive.

Going electric

To help fight greenhouse gas emissions in Louisville, Mayor Greg Fischer has signed an executive order directing all Metro Government agencies to prioritize the purchases of electric and hybrid cars.

VividCharts closes seed round

VividCharts, a Lexington, KY.-based data visualization and workflow automation company for ServiceNow customers, closed a $2M seed financing. The round was led by Airwing Ventures.

Corning Inc. awarded $46M

Apple has awarded another $46 million to support Corning Inc.’s work to supply glass for their iPhones and other devices. Corning previously received $450 million form Apple’s Advanced Manufacturing Fund.
