What a way to cap Women’s History Month, Louisville. Cosmopolitan magazine has picked up on a local television anchor and meteorologist’s plight of being body-shamed by members of her viewership for being — get this — pregnant.
WAVE 3 meteorologist Lauren Jones has faced criticism online from viewers for not wearing maternity-specific clothing and for gaining “too much weight” during her pregnancy. “No, I’m not having twins,” Jones said in a recent Facebook post. She recounted a viewer being “horrified” by how big her belly was and how many weeks away from birth she still is.
The post that caught Cosmo’s attention was by WAVE 3 anchor John Boel. It featured a picture of Jones with the caption, “We are celebrating today because Lauren has gone one week without someone saying something mean to her about baby weight gain. That’s a new record. Big day is only 9 weeks away!”
Jones has been nothing but gracious to her detractors, never shooting back. She has even gone so far as to apologize for offending critical viewers. But maternity clothes are expensive, her shape is changing all the time, and she is a busy woman, Jones explained to a critical viewer. She’s saving her hard-earned money for the baby.

Upon publication of the Cosmo article, “Pregnant Meteorologist Celebrates 1 Whole Week Free of Body-Shaming From Viewers,” Jones received a flood of positive feedback. Her most recent Facebook post thanks her supporters:
Jones co-anchors WAVE 3 News Sunrise with John Boel from 4:30 to 7 a.m. She is an Emmy-nominated anchor and was recognized as Best TV News Anchor by the Associated Press in 2015. Jones and Boel also were recognized as “Louisville’s Best” News Anchors, according to her Facebook page.
This will be her third child.
