More than 30 Louisville bars and restaurants celebrate Negroni Week

How is it possible that a cocktail with only three ingredients gets seven days of celebration each year? Because the Negroni is classic and delicious, that’s how. Gin, Campari and vermouth — that’s all it takes to make the refreshing summertime drink.

Negroni Week will be held June 5-11 around the world — including right here in Louisville — and will help raise funds for various charities. Last year, the event, sponsored by Imbibe Magazine and Campari, raised more than $400,000.

In order to participate, a bar signs up online, chooses its own charity and donates some money, and then agrees to donate a portion of its Negroni sales during the week to the chosen charity.

More than 30 local bars and restaurants are participating, including 8UP, Down One Bourbon Bar, Mr. Lee’s, The Pearl, Doc Crow’s, Meta, Bourbon’s Bistro and Butchertown Grocery (the full list is below).

You can expect to find Negroni specials at each place, and possibly even a twist on the recipe. There’s also a passport program, similar to the Urban Bourbon Trail, where you can collect stamps at each place you visit, and then turn it in for various prizes. (Pick up passports at participating locations.)

Also, in true Louisville fashion, we need to throw a kickoff party as well as a wrap-up shindig recognizing Negroni Week.

The kickoff event will be held Sunday, June 4, at Galaxie from 9 p.m.-midnight and feature DJ Sam Sneed, pizza from The Post, $12 Rynar shot-skis and a Negroni toast at midnight. And the finale bash will be held Sunday, June 11, at Lola from 6-9 p.m. with appetizers, a Negroni dessert, $5 Negronis and more.
