Spring bling: Shopping abounds this weekend with a KY for KY pop-up, the Flea Off and zoo poo

This upcoming weekend may very well be the first time this spring we get both warm temperatures and full-on sunshine — sans rain. Well, at least on Saturday. Well, at least as predicted for now.

So you can bet most Louisvillians will be outside, either getting their lawns and landscaping ready for Derby guests or enjoying one of the many outdoor activities planned this weekend. Here’s a look at three of the more interesting options in town.

Kentucky for Kentucky Pop-Up @ Gravely Brewing Co. — April 5-6

Although Kentucky for Kentucky is primarily based in Lexington, every now and then the sellers of Kentucky-themed apparel host a pop-up shop in Louisville to spread the love. This month, you’ll be able to find all their Y’all goodness at Gravely Brewing Co. both Friday and Saturday starting at noon.

Called “Sip, Shop, Then Rock,” the event includes a shopping experience in the lounge at Gravely, along with the locally made beer and live music at night. Daniel Martin Moore will play Friday starting at 9 p.m., and Otis takes the stage on Saturday at 9.

The pop-up shop is free, and kids are welcome as well.

Flea Off Market — April 6-7

Last month, organizers of the monthly Flea Off Market had to keep moving the event due to impending storms. But this weekend, they’re confident in the weather, and the show will go on — as nature intended. With more than 150 vendors, food trucks, craft beer and more, the Flea Off takes over the grounds of Fresh Start Growers Supply in NuLu, at 1007 E. Jefferson St.

The event is free to attend and runs from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m.-5 p.m on Sunday. Saturday specials include roving musicians in the afternoon and a Monnik happy hour featuring $4 pints from 4-6 p.m. And Sunday sees $4 bloody marys all day long, as well as music by Old Lou’s Ragtime Band and a free kids’ climb wall.

Bring your dog, grab a pint and enjoy the outdoors while perusing some vinyl records or vintage sneakers.

Zoo Poopy Doo — April 6-27

You won’t find any wearables here — vintage or otherwise — but if you think about it, the product for sale here is locally made. The Louisville Zoo is offering up mulch and compost to help beautify your gardening or landscaping by the scoop, and all you have to do is pony up the cash and find a friend with a truck.

The high-quality zoo poo will be for sale on Saturdays from 7:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. through April 27, with a scoop of compost going for $40, or a scoop of mulch for $19.50. The event is part of the zoo’s Party for the Planet, and you must have on open-top truck bed or trailer to get said scoop o’ poop.

On Saturday, April 6, the zoo also will be celebrating gorilla Kindi’s third birthday.
